The Scout Group

3rd Shaw (St Mary’s) Scout Group

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

Scouting offers challenge and adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK. We believe in helping our Members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. We give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life-long friends.  For more information click here

The Scout Group at St Mary’s comprises around 80 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and covers ages from 6 to 14. The programme of training is continuous and so it is important for all members to feel part of one family in Scouting. For further details of each section please see the Beaver, Cub and Scout pages.

The Scout Group is led by the Group Scout Leader (GSL) and managed by the Group Executive Committee. They are accountable to the Group Council for the satisfactory running of the Group.

The Group meets together at various occasions during the year, for example at Church Parades and the Group Open Day & AGM. The Group is also part of Crompton & Royton District and takes part in a range of events such as the District St George’s Day Parade, the District Swimming Gala and District 5-a-side Football Competitions.

The Scout Group has a dedicated team of volunteer leaders, administrators and helpers. However, we are always grateful for any additional assistance and this could be in the form of help with activities, fund raising or as a helper/leader. So, if you feel you can help in any way, just contact any Leader.

All Leaders undergo Scout Association training to ensure they have the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their normal duties in a safe and efficient manner.
