At St Mary's, young people are admitted to Holy Communion from the age of 7, but are not confirmed until they are at least 14.

This is because we believe that all baptised children are members of the Church family and so should not be excluded from the Church family meal once they are old enough to take the bread and wine. And because we believe that they should not be asked to make their baptismal promises for themselves at Confirmation until they are of an age to do so.

          Relaxing on Confirmation Camp

               in Tampere, Finland, 2009

Those who wish to be confirmed will usually have the opportunity to travel to our partnership diocese of Tampere in the Lutheran Church of Finland to take part in a week long Confirmation Camp alongside Finnish young people of a similar age. There may also be the opportunity to take part in a similar camp taking place in this country.
